Bill Brooks memorial Friday, Jan. 4

A memorial service for William “Bill” Copland Brooks will be held on Friday, January 4 at Live Oak Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. Brooks, 83, died on November 29 of this year in Arcadia. He had been hospitalized after a fall at his Monrovia home on two weeks earlier.
Brooks, who had been a resident of Monrovia for 35 years, was perhaps best known locally for his involvement with the Monrovia- Duarte Elks Lodge #1427. He had been a member of the Lodge for over 25 years and had been a trustee for twenty of those years.
He was a veteran of the US Army and was therefore involved with the American Legion, Arcadia chapter, and he Monrovia Veterans of Foreign Wars. With these groups and with the Elks, Brooks spent many volunteer hours.
Brooks was also known for his custom fishing rods which he made for over 50 years. For him, it was more than a hobby, it was a passion. Flowers were another of his hobbies. An avid gardener, Brooks grew Plumeria and Roses, and was especially proud of his orchids
Brooks was preceded in death by his parents, sister Heater and his son Ian. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Jean and several nieces and nephews.
Following the graveside service at Live Oak, there will also be a memorial service at the Elks Lodge in Duarte at 2 :30 p.m. Live Oak is located at 200 E. Duarte Rd in Monrovia. The lodge is located at 2436 Huntington Drive in Duarte.
