On Monday, July 22, 2013, at 9:15 a.m., Arcadia Fire Department personnel responded to a big rig fire on the westbound 210 Freeway, east of Baldwin Avenue. Arcadia Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, and Battalion 105, with units from Monrovia Fire Department, including a water tender, arrived at the scene and witnessed a fully involved tractor trailer fire on the side of the freeway. Although fire appeared to consume the vehicle, firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, confining the fire to the tractor only and preserving the trailer with little to no fire damage.
The cause of the fire appears to be mechanical in nature. According to the driver of the truck, the fire began after the truck suddenly and inexplicably lost power. No collision occurred, nor were any other vehicles involved in the incident.
