Two Assailants Receive Plea Deals in Fatal Beating of Marine

Plea deals were accepted by two San Gabriel Valley men in the fatal beating of a Marine reservist in Old Pasadena last week, according to a published report.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Ricardo Santiago, said Jonas Ramos, 25, of San Gabriel and Angel Moroyoqui, 22, of El Monte pleaded no contest on Tuesday to assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.
The two men are now expected to serve six months in county jail and 30 days community service when they are sentenced on Nov. 5 in Pasadena Superior Court, Santiago said.
This means the one remaining defendant is Fernando Ramirez, 26, of Rowland Heights. His trial was scheduled to begin earlier this week in Pasadena Superior Court, Santiago said.
Prosecutors charged Ramirez with the involuntary manslaughter of 25-year-old Joshua Martinez of Los Angeles as well as assault by means likely to cause great bodily injury. The prosecution also alleged that Ramirez personally inflicted great bodily injury and that the victim went into a coma and suffered brain damage and paralysis.
A video shows the Aug. 5, 2013 assault in the 100 block of East Colorado Boulevard. After Martinez was punched, he fell and struck his head hard on the street. Martinez later died at a hospital, the report said.
There were originally five people charged in the case as Jonathan Aquino, 25, of El Monte and 24-year-old Timothy Coley, 24, of West Covina, pleaded no contest in July to assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, Santiago said, adding both received three years’ probation and 60 days community service.
