Arcadia police officers responded to the 1000 block of South Fifth Avenue Sunday on a 911 call reporting possible gun shots with a person lying in the street.

Once on scene, officers found a male adult suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

The Arcadia Fire Department paramedics were summoned and administered medical aid. The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as 56-year-old, Yue Zhao, of Arcadia. The suspect is still outstanding and has yet to be identified.

The shooting took place about 9 a.m. just south of Duarte Road, Arcadia police Lt. Mike Castro said in a press release.

Officers responded to a call reporting a “loud bang” and a “person down” to find a man wounded by gunfire, the lieutenant said.

Police kept Fifth Avenue closed between Duarte Road and Leda Lane well into the afternoon as authorities continued their investigation.

The investigation is continuing by Arcadia Police Department detectives. Anyone with information is asked to call the Arcadia Police Department at (626) 574-5150. You can also submit crime tips and information via text, phone or web to LA Regional Crime Stoppers, (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
