A 21-year-old man was sentenced Monday to 40 years to life in state prison for shooting another man after a fight near Arcadia in 2012.

Matthew Zamora was found guilty in May of shooting and killing 24-year-old Joseph Romero of Arcadia on June 16, 2012.

Zamora was 17 when the murder occurred but the District Attorney’s Office tried him as an adult.

The shooting happened during a fight between Zamora and Romero and some of their friends in the 5200 block of Tyler Avenue, according to prosecutors.

The autopsy report showed he was shot in the back of the neck and also in the left side of his back.
