A former New York City Fire Department captain pleaded no contest today to sexually molesting two young brothers while he was in Los Angeles last September, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Wilbert Riera, 52, pleaded no contest to two felony counts of lewd act with a child under 14, one count for each victim, in case BA429510. Riera, who resigned from the New York City Fire Department on Wednesday, returns to court on Oct. 8 for sentencing and to surrender to begin serving his jail term.
Riera pleaded to molesting two 11-year-old brothers between Sept. 12 and Sept. 14, 2014, while he was in Los Angeles visiting family members. Under the terms of the negotiated plea, he will be sentenced to five years formal probation and 270 days in county jail. In addition, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life and he must complete a minimum of one year of sex offender therapy. Deputy District Attorney Mara McIlvain with the Sex Crimes Division prosecuted the case. The Los Angeles Police Department investigated the case.
