Pasadena is slated to receive a $250,000 grant from the Department of Justice to supplement its body camera program as part of a more than $23 million effort by the administration to build trust and transparency between police and citizens.
The federal dollars support a proposal by President Obama to purchase 50,000 body-worn cameras for police agencies over the next three years.
“This vital pilot program is designed to assist local jurisdictions that are interested in exploring and expanding the use of body-worn cameras in order to enhance transparency, accountability and credibility,” said Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch, in a statement announcing the grants. “The impact of body-worn cameras touches on a range of outcomes that build upon efforts to mend the fabric of trust, respect and common purpose that all communities need to thrive.”
