A father convicted of throwing his four-year-old daughter off a 120-foot cliff was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for her murder 15 years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced. Cameron John Brown, 53, was sentenced following his conviction in May of the first-degree murder of Lauren Sarene Key. Jurors also found true the special circumstances of murder for financial gain and lying in wait to be true.
Deputy District Attorney Craig Hum with the Major Crimes Division prosecuted the case. Hum told the jury in closing arguments that Brown threw the child off Inspiration Point in Rancho Palos Verdes on Nov. 8, 2000, for revenge because he hated the girl’s mother and he was tired of paying child support. The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
