On Monday, Sept. 21st, 2015, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) and the City of Arcadia held a joint press conference with local leaders to discuss the Inaugural Emergency Preparedness Expo in Arcadia this Sunday, Sept. 27.

The Expo will be held at the City of Arcadia Community Center. The Expo will focus on three disaster areas: Prepare, Survive, Recover.

Representatives from Fire and Police Depts. will also have an Earthquake simulator on hand for children and adults to help prepare for the inevitable quake(s) in California.

Mayor Gary Kovacic said, “Southern California averages 30 earthquakes a day, and has 300 known earthquake faults. On average, Southern California has a magnitude 6.0 earthquake every 5 years.”

Congresswoman Judy Chu said the focus will be on all natural disasters Sunday at the community center.

This event will strive to educate and empower the community on how to keep themselves and their loved ones safe and prepared in the event and aftermath of an emergency or disaster.

Featured demonstrations, displays, and workshops will include interactive presentations for kids, earthquake simulator station, fire extinguisher and emergency vehicle demos, Gold Line train safety education, and informational booths representing various local, state, and federal agencies and other organizations specializing in disaster preparedness and response. This event is made possible by the efforts and collaboration of the following organizations: American Red Cross; Arcadia Unified School District; Methodist Hospital of Southern California; Los Angeles County; and Offices of Assembly-member Ed Chau, and Congresswoman Judy Chu.

Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility. Being Ready starts with you! Taking steps now to effectively prepare for, protect against, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies of all types will go far in ensuring everyone’s safety.

The expo will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. There will be opening remarks at 1:30 and plenty of fun and family-friendly activities as well as the ever-popular food trucks.
