Pasadena Police Officer Placed on Administrative Leave for ‘Negligent Discharge’ of Weapon

A Pasadena police officer accidentally discharged a firearm and shot a fellow officer in the leg Friday night, October 2 at the end of their shift.

Lt. Kelly Evans told Pasadena Independent that the ‘negligent discharge’ of the officer’s weapon is a “ violation of policy…”

However, the administrative review process is in place to determine what factors caused the incident.
If it was a weapon malfunction, the review will so indicate, Lt. Evans said.

The department will not release the names of the two officers as it is a personnel matter.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. Friday at the police patrol car parking structure on Ramona Street between Garfield Avenue and Marengo Avenue.

“One officer unintentionally discharged a gun,” Lt. Evans said, adding that the round struck the other officer in the leg. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.”

There is no other information at this time and no one else was injured.
