Locals Walk Through a Free, Interactive Exhibit to Experience the Effects of Extreme Poverty from the Perspective of the World’s Most Vulnerable Children and Families
The nationally touring, interactive World Vision Experience exhibit will bring national news headlines to life right here in La Cañada, raising awareness of sex trafficking, refugees and child protection in the world’s most fragile and vulnerable places. La Cañada Presbyterian Church is hosting this innovative exhibit as part of its commitment to address the greatest needs of our day.
The exhibit is open in the La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s parking lot on Sunday, Oct. 25, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 26 and 27, 3 to 9 p.m. Walk-ups are welcome. While the exhibit is appropriate for ages 13 and up, there will also be a child-friendly hour (appropriate for ages 5 to 12) on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 9:30 to10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., as well as Monday, Oct. 26, 2 to 3 p.m. Visitors can also reserve a front-of-the-line pass in advance by going to www.worldvisionexperience.org. “World Vision is providing residents of our community with an opportunity to see, hear and experience, in a personal way, the lives of children whose worlds have been devastated by extreme poverty,” said Megan Katerjian, associate pastor of outreach at the church and project coordinator for the exhibit. “As a church, we are committed to tackling global poverty by focusing on the areas of greatest need, and we see this partnership with World Vision as a great way to do that.”
Visitors to the Experience will step into a “global village” contained inside a tractor trailer in the church’s parking lot. Inside, they will don headsets and walk through an inspiring 20-minute journey with four young children, Reshma, Hamze, Moses and Junior, walking into the heart of the most pressing causes of our time: human trafficking, the Syrian refugee crisis and the protection of vulnerable children. The true, life-changing stories within the exhibit will open eyes to untold stories going on around the world and inspire people to follow the example of Jesus by going to the margins to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable children and families.
“World Vision, unfortunately, cannot take thousands of Americans to places like Bangladesh, Syria, or Uganda to personally witness the tragedy of extreme poverty,” said Richard E. Strearns, president and CEO of World Vision, U.S. “So we’ve created this exhibit to enable people to virtually experience the effects of some of the greatest causes of our day and how they can help. No one can do everything, but each of us can do something to help turn the tide against global poverty.”
