Pasadena resident and 14-year breast cancer survivor Cynthia Vant Hul has been named 2016 chair of the American Cancer Society’s Los Angeles Regional Council. She takes over for Debora Wright, CEO of Inner Images, who held the position for the last two years.

Cynthia first turned to the American Cancer Society in December 2001 to get her life back after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“As a cancer survivor, I know how critically important the Society’s services, support, research and advocacy are to the well-being of patients and their loved ones,” she said. “I’m excited to take on this challenge and invite anyone who wants to make a real difference to join me in finishing the fight against cancer.”

The Los Angeles Regional Council convenes the Society’s local volunteer leadership to advance the Society’s mission and fundraising initiatives in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara Counties. Cynthia will head volunteer efforts to build partnerships, increase awareness of Society programs and services, raise funds to support cancer research, free patient services, and education programs, and engage survivors, caregivers and diverse communities to fight back against cancer.

A dedicated volunteer for more than a decade, Cynthia was 2015 chair of the Society’s San Gabriel Valley Leadership Council, and 2014 and 2015 chair for the downtown L.A. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk with 10,000 participants this year. She chaired the Society’s Claremont Relay for Life and co-chaired its annual San Gabriel Valley Gala. Cynthia is also an American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network legislative ambassador, advocating for more cancer research funding, improved access to cancer care, and fighting back against cancer at all levels of government.

Originally from Upland, Cynthia owns Mariposa Eco Consulting in Pasadena, which assists public agencies, private companies, and organizations in managing resource recovery programs and recycling mandates, sustainable program development, and greenhouse gas measurement. She holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in public administration from California State University, San Bernardino. Cynthia and her husband Ken have two children, Angelique and Kyle, a son-in-law, Frank, and three grandsons, Hayden, Hunter, and Harrison.
