Lance Sterling, owner of The Rose in Pasadena, the famous Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, and the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, has really transformed the former Gelson’s supermarket at 245 E. Green St. into a really cool venue where if you love great music and wonderful food, you will feel right at home.
You will also see a plethora of signed guitars and music memorabilia. “I have a lot of stuff that has been in my garage for years, now I have a place to show it,” Sterling said when he first opened the venue last February.
With a custom sound system, lighting, and a major investment in technology, the 39,000-square-foot club features two full bars, a raised VIP area, and is not even remotely pretentious like some other L.A. area clubs that feature live bands.
Opening night in February was definitely a success for Sterling and his efficient and friendly staff. And having a legend (Judy Collins) open the club was certainly a thrill for the boomer audience.
Since then, the staff and management of The Rose have managed to keep Pasadena dancing the night away with some of the best and brightest musicians around.
On Thursday June 2, Jonny Lang will perform and on June 11 the legendary Justin Hayward from Moody Blues will have those college and high school memories flooding back.
On June 17, one of the all-time Jazz guitar greats, Al DiMeola will take to The Rose. Look for an interview with DiMeola in next week’s issue.
Getting into July, The English Beat will play July 30 and the always mellow and gracious Smokey Robinson on Oct. 14.
To keep things interesting at the Rose, a little comedy is in order … so Don Rickles was given a call.
He will be insulting just about anyone and everyone on Nov. 20.
One of the best things about The Rose Pasadena is the ever-expanding line up … they are always getting new acts and the prices are just about the best in California for an intimate music venue.
