Drum Corps International will be marching into the Rose Bowl with over 1,000 musicians and marching talent on Saturday, July 2.
This major league of elite marching bands will take the Rose Bowl field at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature 12 groups, hailing from Arizona, California, Colorado, and Wisconsin. Comprised only of drums and brass instruments, the sound has been described as “breathtaking.”
“These are an advanced group of high school and college performers that play at a level much higher than regular college marching bands, said Stuart Pompel, executive director of the Pacific Crest Youth Arts Organization. “Audiences tell us they have their breath taken away. It is unbelievable that what they are seeing and hearing is coming from such a small group of artists.”
Drum Corps International is a global youth organization that inspires “excellence in music and performing arts throughout the world.” This competitive group receives over 8,000 auditions a year with less than 3,500 available positions left to the most talented group of individuals. Members of Drum Corps International are composed primarily of full-time college students and high school students interested in pursuing music in their careers.
Diamond Bar-based Pacific Crest is one of the most respected performing art organizations in North America. Its 150 performers are carefully selected through a competitive audition process.
Drum Corps International runs until 10 p.m. The competition is part of a North American summer tour. Tickets for Drum Corps International can be found on Ticketmaster or the Rose Bowl website and range in price from $30 to $40.
