A Pasadena woman has been charged with assaulting her 25-year-old daughter as the daughter drove her home from a La Cañada country club, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office recently announced.

Deputy District Attorney Jodi Taksar said Danielle Raines, 58, is charged with one felony count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.

Raines pleaded not guilty and is scheduled back on Oct. 24 in Department D of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pasadena Branch. Case GA099671 was filed on Sept. 20.

On Aug. 31, Raines was allegedly drinking wine with the victim at a country club when she became belligerent and struck and pushed her daughter as she prepared to drive her mother home, the prosecutor said.

During the drive, the defendant is alleged to have assaulted her daughter causing her to pull over, the prosecutor added. Once on the side of the road, Raines allegedly continued beating the victim and attempted to strangle her before she managed to escape, the prosecutor said.

Bail was set at $30,000. If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of four years in state prison. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Crescenta Valley Station.
