Pasadena Police Blotters: Feb. 21 – March 4

Feb. 21

A female walked into a restaurant in the 2000 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue and demanded food. The business clerk refused her service and she was removed from the restaurant. Once outside, the suspect picked up a large rock and threw it at the uniformed security guard. The suspect then picked up another rock and threw it at the restaurant, breaking a large window. The suspect then fled the location. PPD responded and documented the report and recovered evidence at the scene. The case was assigned to PPD detectives, who completed a comprehensive investigation identifying the suspect. On February 22, Pasadena Police officers patrolling in the area of Claremont Street and Summit Avenue saw a subject matching the description of the wanted person. PPD officers contacted the suspect and arrested her without incident. She was positively identify and transported to the Pasadena jail.

Pasadena Police officers responded to the 600 block of North Orange Grove Boulevard regarding a domestic violence call. On arrival, PPD officers learned that the suspect (Oscar Richard Romo) had attempted to strangle the victim. The case was assigned to PPD detectives, who completed a comprehensive investigation subsequently identifying the suspect. On February 25, Officer Petrella was on routine patrol in the 300 block of Colorado Boulevard when he saw Romo. Romo was subsequently contact and arrested without incident. He was transported to the Pasadena jail and booked.

Feb. 23

In the afternoon, United States Marshall’s Fugitive Taskforce detectives, who include Pasadena Police officers, located a wanted murder suspect at a residence in the 1500 block of El Sereno Avenue. During the field investigation, the suspect exited the dwelling and was contacted by the taskforce detectives. The murder suspect failed to comply with directions from the detectives and fled on foot. The Taskforce detectives ran after the suspect and he was immediately arrested. He was transported to Los Angeles Police Department, since the murder occurred in their jurisdiction.

Feb. 24

At about 6:51 p.m., Pasadena Police officers from the Special Enforcement Section (SES) saw suspicious circumstances involving a known local gang member in the 900 block of North Raymond Avenue. Officers contacted the male and noted a strong order of marijuana. During the subsequent investigation, SES officers recovered marijuana and evidence indicative of drug sales. The officers also recovered a loaded firearm. The suspect was arrested without incident and booked at the Pasadena jail.

At about 11:12 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the Colorado Street Bridge regarding a male victim (25 years old, Northridge Resident) standing on the edge, beyond the safety fence. Officers from the department’s Crisis Negotiation Team were called and responded to the bridge. The CNT officers talked with the victim for several hours. Later, the victim climbed back on to the bridge. He was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Feb. 26

At 9:36 a.m., Pasadena Police officers conducted a death investigation in the 1200 block of East Orange Grove Boulevard. PPD and PFD personnel arrived and found a female victim. The victim, who suffered from ill health, was pronounced dead by PFD personnel at the scene. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded and removed the victim’s body from the home.

Feb. 28

 At about 9:30 p.m., the Pasadena Police Department received a call of shots fired in the area of Garfield Avenue and Hammond Street. The witness provided a description of the vehicle used in the shooting and PPD officers patrolling nearby saw the suspects running from the car. Officers quickly contained the area with the assistance of the police helicopter. Two suspects were immediately taken into custody without incident; one was armed with a handgun. The third suspect fled the location on foot, clearly attempting to evade the officers. Several officers were needed to search for the outstanding suspect. Police officers from South Pasadena and Sheriff’s Deputies from Altadena were called. Subsequently, after several hours, the third suspect was located and arrested. The suspects (Jarell Taylor, 25, Pasadena resident; Dejohn Ogletree 24, Altadena resident; Dalone Andrews 26, Altadena resident) are all parolees. They were transported to the Pasadena jail and booked on several felony charges.

At 1:12 p.m. Pasadena Police officers responded to the Colorado Street Bridge regarding a subject (female, 25 years old) sanding beyond the safety fence. PPD officers began talking with the victim who was, initially non responsive. However, after several hours of negotiating with the victim, she climbed back on to the bridge. The victim was taken to a local area hospital for mental health evaluation.

March 2

At 6:32 p.m., Pasadena Police officers investigated an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1300 block of North Marengo Avenue. On arrival, officers learned that the victim drove her car into a communal driveway to drop off a passenger. The suspect came out of a rear garage, took photos of the car, and told the victim to leave. The victim backed onto the street and parked her car. She then walked toward the driveway and was confronted by the suspect. A verbal argument ensued over the photos and the suspect (Carl Wagenfuehr, 50, Pasadena resident) subsequently armed himself with a rifle pointing it at the victim. The victim called the police and the suspect was arrested without incident.

March 3

At about 7:12 a.m., Pasadena Police and Fire Departments responded to the wash area below the Colorado Street Bridge regarding a female who was lifeless. Based on the evidence at the scene, it appears the victim committed suicide by jumping from the bridge. The victim was preliminarily identified as a Los Angeles Resident, approximately 27 years old. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to assist and remove the victim’s body.

March 4

At about 10:08 a.m., Pasadena Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Orange Grove Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue. The driver abruptly stopped the vehicle, exited quickly, and fled on foot, leaving a passenger in the front seat of the car. Officers chased after the suspect and later elected to contain the area. During the field investigation, PPD officers learned that the suspect (Ronald Hopkins 27, Altadena resident) was armed with two handguns and on active parole. After several hours, the suspect was arrested without incident after he complied with the officer’s orders to surrender. The guns were recovered and Hopkins was booked at the Pasadena jail.

At about 10:25 p.m. Pasadena Police officers responded to the Colorado Street Bridge regarding a female standing on the edge beyond the safety railing. Officer established contact with the female who was apparently distraught following an argument with her husband. CNT officers talked with the victim for several hours and finally she agreed to climb back on to the bridge. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for mental health evaluation.
