During the past few months, city staff has coordinated more than a dozen outreach meetings to discuss the possibility of calling for a special election in November 2019 for the community to consider a sales tax increase. Given the response that staff has received from the community to date, they are in the process of coordinating a Study Session with the Monrovia City Council regarding their findings and recommendations related to the sales tax measure. At this point, staff is planning to agendize the Study Session in advance of their meeting on May 7.
In addition, in preparing for that discussion, staff has started to work on developing a possible spending plan for the new funds, in the event that the sales tax measure effort is successful.
