(Photo by Keith Birmingham, Pasadena Star-News/ SCNG) Another Long Beach resident, a man in his 50s with underlying health conditions, has died from coronavirus-related causes, officials announced Tuesday, Sept. 1, bringing the city’s death toll to 217. The city also reported 150 more coronavirus cases. There have been 10,674 cases identified in Long Beach since the pandemic began. But about 9,654 people — or 90% of those who have tested positive — have since recovered. Officials said about 70 of the cases reported Tuesday were new; the rest were the result of backlogs from June and July. There were 60 Long Beach residents in hospitals with the virus on Tuesday. Long Beach’s positive testing rate was 5.2%, the same as the day prior. But the city’s new daily case rate per 100,000 people was 9.4, down from 10.5 on Monday.
