According to Sgt. Burkhalter, who was the watch commander when the robbery took place, Monrovia police received the phone call alerting them to the robbery at Trader Joe’s came at 8:53 p.m. on Monday evening. Monrovia police responded immediately. The suspect had already left the location when units responded.
Witnessesreported that a Black man between 20 and 30 years old came into the store justbefore closing. He is described as being between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet talland wearing either a black hoodie with a red logo or a red hoodie. Allagreed he had a handgun and a black backpack. Brandishing the gun, hedemanded the money from the safe.
Afterreceiving the money from the safe, he left the store and was last seen drivingwestbound in the parking lot in a new or modern black Dodge Charger. TraderJoe’s has yet to determine the exact amount lost.
