Los Angeles Dodgers icon Fernando Valenzuela died mainly as a result of septic shock, according to a death certificate made public Tuesday.
Additional causes of the legendary pitcher’s Oct. 22 death at age 63 were “decompensated alcoholic cirrhosis” and “nonalcoholic steatohepatitis cirrhosis,” according to the document obtained by TMZ.
The document also said he may have suffered from the rare brain disease Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
Funeral services for Valenzuela were held Nov. 6 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown LA. The death certificate reported that he was cremated.
Valenzuela is survived by his wife Linda and four children, Fernando Jr., Ricardo, Linda and Maria Fernanda, and seven grandchildren.
