Metro A Line service between the Monrovia and APU/Citrus College stations stop running over the weekend starting Friday night, the agency announced Thursday.

The closure is due to construction work that is part of the Metro’s collaboration with the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority, officials said.

The suspension will be from 9 p.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Monday. In addition to APU/Citrus College, stations that will close are Durate/City of Hope, Irwindale and Azusa Downtown.

Metro will provide shuttle-bus service at the affected stations. This will be the last weekend that bus operation will be needed to complete construction work, the agency said.

The construction work connects the A Line with a new rail extension between Glendora and Pomona in the San Gabriel Valley. This phase will build new A Line stations in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and Pomona with opening anticipated for sometime next year, according to Metro.

Work is also underway on another segment that will extend the A Line through Claremont and on to Montclair in San Bernardino County.
